Preparation before setting up RS Energy
Before initiating an installation of RS Energy hardware and software, the following needs to be considered and decided. In addition, you will need to allow some time for Good Solutions to send you IoT boxes and energy clamps where required.
RS Energy licences
Before launching a setup of RS Energy, you will need to ensure that Good Solutions has activated a license for RS Energy in your RS Production software. Discuss this with your Good Solutions contact if you have not done so previously. This process is handled by Good Solutions Support.
Number of measuring points
In your discussions with Good Solutions, you will likely have decided on many measuring points that the RS Energy product will cover. Ensure that you have mapped out and decided on the number of measuring points that the RS Energy project should cover. This will decided how many RS IoT hardware devices that will need to be sent out to you as a customer beforehand.
Discuss this with your Good Solutions contact if you are unsure.
Energy measuring clamps
Before setting up your hardware, you will need to decide how many energy measuring clamps to use. Normally, you will need three clamps for one machine, as most machines run on a three-phase power source. The below clamp selections refer to 230V power sources.
Ensure accurate clamp selection by first matching that the clamp has a higher ampere reading than the machines maximum per cable and then matching the clamp size with the machine's cable diameter. Here's the quick reference:
100A Clamp: Max 24mm diameter
300A Clamp: Max 36mm diameter
600A Clamp: Max 45mm diameter
800A Clamp: Max 65mm diameter
Key Note: Always verify the cable diameter to ensure a proper fit. Incorrect sizing will lead to installation issues.
It is good to use a clamp with as low amp rating as possible becuase it has a 1% fault window of measurement. Meaning that the 800A clamp could be +-8A off the correct value.
But it will be evenly of the same amount so even smaller changes in amps will be recorded.
You can find the machines max ampere if you look on the CE plate, or on the fuse.
RS Production installation number
Before starting the setup of the RS Energy IoT device, make sure that you have the RS Production installation number available, as you will need this to associate the hardware with your RS Production database.
Limitations
Each IoT box can connect to a maximum of three clamps. Factor this into any calculations on the number of clamps required.
All above information refers to 230V installations. If you require clamps optimised for 110V installations, please speak with your Good Solutions contact person.
