Measure points

Measure point, a central concept in RS Production OEE

In RS Production OEE, the measure point is the entity that all times and amounts are assigned to. We can therefore say that the measure points are the most central objects in RS Production OEE.

A number of properties are linked with the measure points and a number of configurations are performed for the measure points to ensure that data collection and calculations are performed correctly.

The measure points are also associated with a number of other objects. Some types of object are “owned” by the measure points, whereas for other objects there is only a looser association (reference).

How many measure points do we needed?

The number of measure points is not the same as the number of signals collected.

Among other things, each measure point allows you to

  • Start/stop an order (one or more in parallel at the same point)

  • Register a measure point status (uptime, standstill, changeover, no order, no schedule)

  • Calculate an efficiency indicator (OEE)

  • Clock in operators

  • Etc. ...

Efficiency should be measured at the bottleneck

If you want to measure machine efficiency, the starting point is to measure at the bottleneck in the flow. If you have a single machine, it is easy to see that you need one measure point per machine. If you have a cell, a line or a flow in some other way, you need to look more closely at the bottleneck and the variations in the flow.
